Finding balance

Most of us are trying the best we can to live our lives in a balanced way. Because the opposite of balance is chaos. And for most of us, it's almost impossible to live a life without having some structure. But life is about finding your own path and way of harmony. How you like to live, to feel in balance with yourself and the world, is mostly not the same way as everybody else. That is why friends sometimes grow apart, and that is why people sometimes fall out of love. Our frequency and way of moving, working and reflecting is a major part of us. The pace we move at and mature. We change and grow, but this often result in a feeling of imbalance, or a heavy sense of melancholia. Years may feel like they're drifting away without you even noticing, and then suddenly a day feels like a century. Extreme feelings, emotions and callings. We all go through it. Sometimes it all happens in a course of a day. 

But finding balance is important. I'm not talking about putting a lid on our emotions or live by the same routine every day. I am talking about living our life freely, and allow ourselves to be in balance with both our body and mind, world and surroundings. To feel in extremes is a part of what it is to be human, especially how deeply we are able to care. And we should not feel like we have to restrain our emotions, because afterall they are a part of our identity. To be fully in balance with ourselves, it is very important to spend time taking care of oneself, and that includes acknowledging our feelings. 

So how do we find balance in our everyday lives? I remember having this conversation with Nora a couple of years ago and she showed me a way of making a plan, where you divide each day into three categories: work, play and relax. Every day there should always be a balance between the groups. Work can for instance be homework or cleaning. Play can be everything from yoga to bike-rides with friends, and relax can be things like taking a bath, meditation and writing. For us to live as happily as possible, our Yin-energy and Yang-energy should be in balance. Some aspects of the Yin energy is darkness, softness and rest, while aspects of the Yang energy is light, heat and positive charge. One can say that Yang is activity, and Yin is nourishing it. You can't have one without the other. You have to find balance between the two, to live a balanced life. Today, it is much focus on the Yang energy, and our lives are full of activity and stress, but to keep on moving we need to nourish the Yang energy and we get this from Yin. Therefore it is important to remember that everyone heals at a different pace and we all frequently have to spend time alone with our mind to recharge.

I know from experience, that this is a long process, but making small steps can eventually lead to a better understanding of yourself. Make your well-being a priority!
